I would always tell Sharif to ‘stay well-dressed, well-read, and wonderful’ — and he did. He was so incredibly distinguished, humble, and intelligent. A true gentleman—and a Godly one at that.

Thank you for always being kind, compassionate and sharing your wealth of knowledge. This is a very devastating way to say goodbye. To your family we give thanks for you, pray for their strength and comfort in this difficult time. Rest in peace Sharif.

During my time working at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, I got married and I also met Sharif during that time. His office was right across my office, and he would always make it a point to come say "hello" and "good morning" every morning he was in the office. He also would always ask me how my family was, every single morning he was in the office. The day my son was born, I notified my manager, and he notified the Enrollment Management team. Sharif then proceeded to send me a TEAMs message congratulating me on the birth of my son. The message is in the screenshot below. At that time, that message brought tears to my eyes. Writing this message now myself has a completely different meaning now. RIH (Rest in Heaven) Sharif.

To the Family, friends, and loved ones of the late Sharif AliDinar, may the comfort, peace, and ever loving Hand of the Creator safely guide you through this immense time of grief.

From the moment Sharif began working as a Fin Advisor at the SoM, he instantly brought a great sense of warmth, joy, and a vibe that was so chill and charismatic. He was such a genuinely kind, compassionate, and personable soul. We were both excited about shared interests in "high literature," primarily, Shakespearean (I was the antagonist and he was the protagonist), which ultimately led to our plans to attend the Renaissance Festival together this Spring. Our conversations were always thought-provoking and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your LIGHT, LOVE, and vigor for LIFE!

You have made a wonderful contribution to WSU by helping so many students get services to further their education. Those countless students will hopefully appreciate your efforts as much as we, your colleagues do. Your outstanding personality, wonderful smile, willingness to help will be greatly missed. I met Sharif when he volunteered to serve on the Wayne State University Open House Student Panel I moderated in 2010. As he grew professionally, we collaborated on various projects, including this video he created for our Undergraduate Admissions Instagram page. Sharif was always willing to step up and support students, ensuring they had the resources to succeed.

This picture of the WSU team was taken in Lansing during Advocacy Day, hosted by the Michigan College Access Network and the Michigan Association for College Admissions Counseling. Sharif always greeted everyone with a smile and positivity, a true ray of sunshine in human form. His kindness, infectious smile, and sweet spirit will be deeply missed. This is a significant loss for our WSU community. Rest in peace and power, Sharif.

My husband, Emran, and my sister, Khaleda, all work at WSUSOM and we would always see Sharif at work. Every time I brought my son with me to visit everyone at work, Sharif would come by and say hi to us. He was always so kind and welcoming. I saw him last at a holiday party right before winter break and he was just joking around with us a lot and making everyone laugh. I was sitting next to him and my sister that day. It’s hard to believe that was my last encounter with him. He would always ask my husband and I about our son and just talk to us about anything. I feel so sad about his passing. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and mother especially.

Rest in peace, friend. Thank you for all the warmth you brought into our lives at work. You will truly be missed.

Sharif was one of the kindest individuals I have ever met. He was always willing to go out of his way to help people, whether it be students or colleagues, he was there for them. His smile could radiate anyone’s day. He always made an effort to say hello and ask how you’re doing. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to work with him and get to know him. He will be greatly missed. Hard to believe that you are gone. Fly high and rest in peace, Sharif. Sending thoughts and prayers to his loved ones during this difficult time.

I first met Sharif while working at WSU SAR. He immediately struck me as a rising star with so much potential. Sharif's charisma and intellect was second only to his compassionate nature. He lead with a smile and positivity. Sharif loved adventure, literature and travel. We bonded over his love of books & travel. His deep faith was truly impressive. Sharif lived his life with dignity & will truly missed. My heart is broken & I am devastated . SHARIF, you're place in Heaven is surely magnificent because your presence here on earth most certainly was. Such a kind and loving person gone way too early. Sharif was an incredible coworker and friend to everyone. He was the type of person who was so level headed no matter what situation. I truly learned a lot from that man. Such a wonderful person.

My heart aches knowing you are no longer here. From the moment I met you on your first day working in SAR at WSU, I knew there was something extraordinary about you. You were such a ray of sunshine, bringing warmth and light to everyone around you. We were like birds of a feather, always in harmony, finding joy and connection in each other’s presence. I will forever cherish the bond we shared and the love you brought into my life. I especially hold close the moments when you prayed with me. Your faith and kindness gave me strength in ways I cannot put into words.

I met Sharif when I moved in Grandmont Community in 2008. He was the Yoith & Eduation coordinator at the time and my 2 daughters really enjoyed his program's and I was highly impressed how he handles the kids in the community at such a young age. His mom did a fantastic job. Michelle, friend if you are reading this, my heart and prayers are with you and your family.

We were Red Cross team members and Sharif was recognized as a great communicator, solid citizen, and a visionary. He will be remembered and missed.

I am the mom of a first year WSU med school student. I'm so sorry about Sharif. I only spoke at length with him once, but he made it possible for my son to fulfill his dream to attend WSU. In just a short time, Sharif saw in my son what I see in my son. For a mother, there is no greater gift. Sharif was so kind, enthusiastic and loving. We need more of that in this world. I'm so sorry for your family and the med school family. Hugs to you.

Mr. AliDinar was incredibly helpful and addressed so many questions that I had about my financial aid over the last 2 years. He was very kind and genuine and we’re all shocked by his loss. May his family be given strength during this difficult time.

Sharif was a major figure in my support system at WSUSOM during the toughest time my family has faced. Not only did he help make it possible for me and countless other students to attend WSUSOM, but he also was someone who was deeply understanding and who genuinely cared about students' personal lives and aspirations. His legacy will live on among all of the lives he transformed here at WSUSOM and beyond.

Sharif, a few more things (as you knew, I would often circle back and add further commentary to our conversations) and then I shall sign off as this situation is all very incomprehensible -

Remember when you shared that you had watched Aladdin (1992) 'in 4K' and my response to that was, 'I am happy that you viewed Aladdin - but what, exactly, did you watch it in?' Being that I am not an avid television-watcher, and you, being knowledgeable of a myriad of topics, readily explained that '4K' is a feature for images and videos - and that this feature made the movie an even more colorful and vibrant experience.

Remember when you were presented with a certificate for 'Best Hair?' That was a fun moment. The date on that certificate reads as 1/17/22; today is 1/17/25.

Remember how you were inspired to create your own Bitmoji? I joked that your Bitmoji would only ever be seen with books. In hindsight, the most beautiful and poignant aspect of your Bitmoji is that you utilized it as the main image for your profile on Mastodon Social where you would post your daily Scriptures.

Remember how at our big, old Millennial ages, we reverted back to children for roughly thirty seconds when you literally pushed me to my desk (at a safe speed, of course, because you were the quintessential gentleman) in my rolling office chair? That was a joyous moment.

From our discussions on enriching, varied topics ranging from the health benefits of certain mushrooms, Baroque and Opera music, scenic landscapes captured by photography, The Souls of Black Folk (1903) by W.E.B DuBois, on down to our tug-of-war debates where neither of us would budge, and everything else in between, there is great appreciation. In fact, our goal was to maintain harmony and overall equilibrium.

I will always be grateful to Sharif for making the transition to WSU SOM less overwhelming than it was initially. There was so much I didn’t know about financial aid and the process of receiving loans, but he was always very patient and understanding while addressing my questions. He was an incredibly kind man; I can only imagine what his family is going through right now. May he rest in peace.

I had been thinking of your name and a few of your special sentiments about it. I remember how amused and proud you were to be the only ‘Sharif AliDinar’ in all of the United States - and how in Arabic, ‘Sharif’ is associated with ‘honor,’ ‘nobility,’ and ‘virtue.’ How very fitting for you.

And of course, a memory about you would not be complete without highlighting one of the countless ways in which you dedicated your wonderful energy and precious time to others. In 2008, you posted about your appreciation of the American Red Cross (National Youth Institute) and how you looked forward to the next event, in hopes of assisting with the facilitation of it.

I truly believe that your intentions, in general, were especially genuine. You aimed to be a source of encouragement, joy, and support towards all who you encountered. You strived to be good and pure in all that you did.

Month nine.

I remember your promotion to the School of Medicine. In fact, you weren’t too thrilled that I didn’t acknowledge it when I was made aware. There was a reason for my hesitation, but nonetheless, I was able to share a heartfelt text message with you about it after one of our Thursday calls.

Now that you have been promoted at the Highest level, I imagine that you are most certainly still punctual, dependable, knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, and just an overall joy. You remain a shining pillar of excellence, Sharif.

What a year.

You planned to travel to and re-visit Hong Kong and Singapore—but as your mother has said, you probably still made those trips and beyond. Speaking of your mother, she has been quite encouraging and resilient.

This year, you also planned to embark on your new journey of becoming Attorney AliDinar. I know, undoubtedly, that you would have been one of the nicest, most ethical, and honest law professionals—a rarity!

The happiness in this year is knowing that you have blessed so many in your life, and we are thankful to have had the presence of your wonderful, kind and peaceful spirit. In seven days, it will be one year since those of us who love you have had to live without you. You are truly missed Habibi, but you will forever live in our hearts.

Sharif is my cousin. Although I was older than him, and he looked up to me, I’m IMMENSELY proud of the legacy he cast—one of love of GOD, family, and the calling to be compassionate towards others.

I was and continue to be inspired by his life. I couldn’t believe it when he passed away—it still feels unreal—he is fervently missed by our family every day and will NEVER be forgotten. I thank all of you who knew and cared for our family member. It means a lot to our family. Please continue to pray for his mom and our family, and keep his memory alive. I hope his life and legacy inspires us all to live a selfless life like my cousin Sharif.

Today we honor and celebrate the life of Sharif whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Though his life was taken far too soon in a tragic hit-and-run, his kindness, strength, and loving spirit will never be forgotten.
