Roman Carl Wanat Jr., age 70, a lifelong resident of Ferndale, passed away on August 31, 2026. He was born on March 9, 1956.

 Roman is survived by his four children, Maria (Thomas) Tillitson, Roman Wanat III, Leah Wanat, and Monica (Patrick) Reiter; his grandchildren, Madison, Tara, and Thomas; and his great-grandchildren, Emily and Erik. He is also survived by his brothers, John Wanat, Joe Wanat and Christine Steging, Robert (Sue) Duncan, Theodore (Wendy) Duncan, and Glenn (Sonya) Duncan. 

 Roman was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Duncan; his fathers, Theodore Duncan and Roman Wanat Sr.; and his brother, Marc Wanat.

 Roman loved his family and friends deeply and never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and always had a great story to tell—usually one that left everyone laughing. During the 1980s, Roman owned and operated his own towing company. 

 He was an avid golfer, a loyal fan of every Detroit sports team, and had a lifelong passion for music and he loved hunting up north.  Whether he was sharing a story, talking sports, playing a favorite song, or simply spending time with the people he loved, Roman had a way of making himself unforgettable. 

 He will be remembered for his humor, his stories, his love of music, and the unmistakable presence he brought wherever he went. His family and friends will carry countless memories of him and will miss him deeply. 

 The family will receive friends on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Home, 500 West Nine Mile Road, Ferndale, Michigan 48220.
