Peter Joseph Lash, 78, passed away on October 10, 2026. He grew up in Ferndale, Michigan, and was a 1966 graduate of Ferndale High School. He went on to graduate from Michigan State University and earned his master's degree from Wayne State University.

Pete had a long and rewarding career as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the State of Michigan. He was extraordinarily kind and compassionate, and he also had a wonderful sense of humor that he never hesitated to share with his family and friends.

He had a beautiful singing voice, which he cultivated in the madrigals at Ferndale High School. He was always up for a good party. A little Madonna, Cher, ABBA, or Steely Dan was all it took to get him dancing.

Pete loved boating on Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair, and treasured his time at the family cottage in Port Elgin, Ontario. As the son of a General Motors engineer, he had a passion for exciting cars, trading in frequently for the next cool car. Above all, he cherished his nieces and nephews, who adored their Uncle Pete and were a light in his life.

He is survived by his three loving sisters, Leigh Lash of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Barbara Mueller of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Gretchen Baron of Huntington Woods, Michigan; his loving brothers-in-law, Anthony Baron of Huntington Woods, Michigan, and Lynn Mueller of Silver Spring, Maryland; his beloved nieces and nephews, including Andrew and Alexander Mueller of Maryland, and Hannah, Caroline, and Katie Baron of Huntington Woods, Michigan; and many dear friends in Ferndale, Port Huron, Port Elgin, Ontario, and Allegria Village in Dearborn.

MEMORIES

I remember one Thanksgiving holiday when the Lash's decided to sing West Side Story. Peter and Leigh found for the role of Maria .... ps Peter played her better !!! He was a funny, kind and compassionate man. He taught me a lot about alternative lifestyles which I have appreciated all on my life. I am grateful to have Peter Lash in my life.

Although brief, I have been fortunate enough to have known Peter for a handful of years through the Mueller family. Peter’s humor and wittiness was something I always looked forward to when I knew I would see him at the cabin. He had fantastic quips and comebacks that brought me so much joy to catch. One of my favorite memories is of Peter on the beach at the cabin singing Madonna with his nieces and during a karaoke birthday party.
